Book Review

In reviewing “How to Stop Heartburn”, our main question was: How do you stop heartburn?

Co-authors Minocha and Adamec begin with a fact you can find across the Internet - but a fact that few people take time to appreciate. At least 61 million people in the U.S. and Canada need to stop heartburn! Many don’t even think about how to stop heartburn. They think it’s a nuisance disease that will do not harm. This book refutes that belief. You must stop heartburn, it contends, before it develops into GERD or cancer of the esophagus.

It is easy, the authors tell us, to stop heartburn in its early stages. You need never worry about GERD or cancer if you follow certain steps.

Systematically, but simply, Dr. Minocha begins with a lesson in anatomy and the reasons for heartburn. Shunning the physicians’ jargon that confuses many patients, he writes in plain English about myths that surround heartburn.

When Dr. Minocha offers remedies to stop heartburn, he includes not only conventional remedies, but non-conventional, alternative remedies. He suggests ways to stop heartburn with treatments such as acupressure, juicing, yoga, and other offbeat treatments.

Stop heartburn, this book suggests, with lifestyle changes. Changes in the way you eat and sleep can stop heartburn. Weight loss and stress reduction can stop heartburn. This section on changing your lifestyle to stop heartburn is one of the major parts of the book.

Is Dr. Minocha qualified to write a book on how to stop heartburn? He is Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology for the School of Medicine, Southern Illinois University. He presents accurate information on how to stop heartburn.

Is this book for you, or can you get the same information by following search words on the Internet. You may be able to get the same information, given enough time and determination. You will probably not be able, however, to sort out the Internet information to determine what is accurate and what is not. Dr. Minocha and his co-author, Christine Adamec, took the time to do that for you with all of their professional expertise.
