Acid Reflux Symptoms and Cures

Expert AuthorAcid reflux symptoms, like heartburn symptoms, are initially felt as a burning sensation at the top of the abdomen. The burning warmth may feel as though it is going upward in waves toward the throat. Other acid reflux symptoms include, but are not necessarily limited to these:

* A burning in the throat or the back part of the mouth is a common reflux symptom. Acute cases of acid reflux can send the burning sensation into the jaw, arms, and back.
* A bitter, acid taste in the mouth, sometimes described as a sour taste as though one were about to vomit is another reflux symptom. This taste can be strong enough to induce actual vomiting.
* A third acid reflux symptom is a frequent urge to burp, or belch.

For further discussion of reflux symptoms, read our information on heartburn symptoms, which can be identical. Acid reflux symptoms can best be understood in light of the causes of acid reflux.

Define Acid Reflux

Acid reflux is not an acid problem, but a muscular weakness. Acid reflux symptoms generally occur because the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is too weak to function properly. The LES is a ring of muscle between the stomach and the lower end of the esophagus. A properly functioning LES will open to allow swallowed food to move from the esophagus into the stomach. Then it should close quickly to keep food and stomach juices in the stomach. If it relaxes too much or too suddenly, the LES will allow stomach juices to flow back up into the esophagus, causing acid reflux symptoms.

Acid reflux symptoms may be caused by unmanaged anger or stress. Just as anger and stress can cause muscular problems in shoulders and neck, they can cause other muscles to strain or cramp.

Acid Reflux Cures

Sadly, the medical community has not yet found a treatment to address acid reflux symptoms directly. Instead of undertaking to strengthen the muscle so it will function properly, or help the patient gain control over pent up anger and stress, physicians commonly use acid-blocking medications to treat reflux symptoms and fail to address the root cause of those reflux symptoms. Until they find a treatment that helps the LES regain its strength, they can only treat your acid reflux symptoms, not cure the acid reflux.

The homeopathy community believes an agent can be introduced that will address the muscular weakness directly. If the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) ring of muscle is not too badly damaged, or too greatly enlarged, the homeopathic preparation they recommend is believed capable of resolving the problem in at least 80 to 100 percent of cases.

CAUTION: Since frequent acid reflux can lead to serious medical concerns, please use this information for educational purposes only. See your physician for frequent acid reflux symptoms.
